Ram ProMaster Kingston: A Work Van Buyer's Guide to Sizes, Trade-Ins and Financing

Updated: Sep 23

A Ram ProMaster is a strong fit for a Kingston trade or small business that needs a big, easy-to-organize work van, and the right one comes down to the body, the roof height and how you will use it through the winter.
At Jim Thompson Chrysler on Gardiners Road, we are a Ram dealer, so we can help you order a new ProMaster and look after it in our own service department.
This Ram ProMaster Kingston guide covers the sizes, the local questions, what to check on a used van, and how trade-ins and financing work here, O.A.C.
Key Takeaways
Every current ProMaster is front-wheel drive, and it comes as a cargo van, a window van or a chassis cab cutaway.
Pick the roof height and length around your gear, your parking and the garages or laneways you use every week.
A battery-electric ProMaster EV joined the lineup for the 2025 model year, alongside the gas V-6.
On a used van, check the service records, the kilometers, the cargo floor and doors, the tires and brakes, and open recalls by VIN.
You can see what your current van or truck is worth online, and financing is available on new and pre-owned vehicles through our online credit application, O.A.C.
Is a Ram ProMaster in Kingston the Right Work Van for Your Business?
It is for most trades and delivery businesses that carry tools, stock or materials around the city and want room to load, sort and work inside the van.
Picture a plumber leaving a Bath Road supply house with pipe on the roof rack and fittings on the shelves, an electrician heading to a renovation in Amherstview, or a caterer loading trays for an event on the waterfront.
A van keeps the tools dry, locked and organized all day. It also gives your business name a clean, flat side to ride around Kingston on.
When we wrote this in September 2026, the new Ram models on our lot were all pickups, the Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500, with no ProMaster in stock, so a new ProMaster here starts with a conversation and an order.
Our new vehicle inventory updates daily, and our used inventory is the place to watch for a pre-owned van.
A ProMaster isn't the right tool if you need four-wheel drive for a farm lane or an unplowed job site, or if heavy towing is a big part of your week.
For that work a Ram pickup fits better, and our guides to choosing a used Ram truck for work and towing and the Ram 1500 as a working truck cover those choices.

Which Ram ProMaster Do You Need?
Start with the body, then the roof height and length, then the powertrain.
For 2026 there are three bodies, three trim levels named Tradesman, SLT and SLT+, and many combinations of wheelbase and roof height.
Cargo Van
The cargo van is the one most trades choose: a closed box behind the front seats, ready for shelving, bins and racks.
It is the blank canvas for a plumbing, electrical, HVAC or delivery setup.
Window Van
The window van adds side windows, which bring daylight into the back and help you see out when you change lanes on the 401.
It suits a business that wants the same box with a more open feel.
Chassis Cab Cutaway
The cutaway is a cab and frame with no box behind it, built to take a body added after it leaves the factory, such as a box body for moving or delivery work.
If you have a body in mind, bring its details to our sales team before you order, and our Build and Price tool is a good place to start sketching a new Ram.
Roof Height and Length
The ProMaster comes with a low roof or a high roof, and the 2023 update added a super high roof for the most headroom.
There are three wheelbases, plus an extended body on select models, so the cargo floor can be sized to your ladders, pipe or pallets.
For 2026, ladder rack mounting points are standard on the super high roof, with late availability noted.
The ProMaster EV
For the 2025 model year, Ram added the battery-electric ProMaster EV in cargo van and step van versions, front-wheel drive like the gas van.
Ram Canada's 2025 ProMaster EV fact sheet lists a targeted range of up to 290 km in city driving with the standard battery, so ask our sales team which versions can be ordered for the current model year.
What Changed From 2019 to 2026
The 2019 to 2021 vans pair the 3.6-litre Pentastar V-6 with a six-speed automatic, and 2022 brought a nine-speed automatic and a longer list of standard safety features.
The 2023 update brought a new front end, the super high roof, park assist and the Uconnect 5 system, and 2026 adds the ladder rack points and new options on the Tradesman.

How Does a Ram ProMaster Handle Kingston Winters, Parking and Job Sites?
On a good set of winter tires, a front-wheel-drive ProMaster is a workable year-round van for city and highway routes, and the tires matter more than anything else.
Plan winter tires on their own rims before November, and book the tire swap online so it is done before the first storm on the 401.
Roof height is the question most buyers forget until the first parking garage.
A high or super high roof may not clear an underground garage, a low carport or an older laneway downtown, so measure the clearances you meet every week before you choose.
A low roof suits downtown calls and residential garages, while the taller roofs pay off for trades who spend the day working inside the van.
On job sites out toward Odessa, Harrowsmith or Gananoque, a front-wheel-drive van does its job on gravel roads and firm ground, but a soft, unplowed site is pickup territory.
Shelving, racks and bins are what make a ProMaster earn its keep, so plan the layout with your upfitter before the van arrives and tell us which body and roof it needs.

What Should You Check on a Used Ram ProMaster in Kingston?
Check the history, the service records, the kilometers, the cargo area and doors, the tires and brakes, and open recalls.
Work vans live busy lives, so read the whole van, not only the odometer:
The vehicle history report and the service records, with oil changes on schedule and any transmission work noted.
Kilometers against age, since highway kilometers on a delivery route wear a van differently from stop-and-go city work.
The cargo floor, walls and roof, for holes left by old shelving or racks and for any sign of water getting in.
The sliding and rear doors: hinges, tracks, latches and seals, since they open many times a day.
Tires and brakes, including uneven wear from carrying heavy loads.
Open recalls: run the VIN through Transport Canada's recall lookup, or ask our service department to check it, since recalls can be issued at any time.
In Ontario, a registered dealer has to disclose certain facts about a used vehicle's history in writing, so read that part of the bill of sale before you sign.
Once the van is yours, our factory-trained technicians service it with Mopar parts, and you can read about our Signature Service program before your first visit.

Can You Trade In Your Work Van or Truck at Jim Thompson Chrysler?
Yes, whether it is paid off or you still owe money on it, and whatever make it is.
See what your current van or truck is worth online first, so you arrive with a starting point.
We appraise it in person and put the value in writing, based on its condition, kilometers, history and what the same vehicle sells for in Eastern Ontario right now.
Bring the ownership, every key, the service records, and your lender's details if there is a loan. Tell us whether the shelving stays with the van or comes out with your tools.
If there is a loan, with your permission we request the payout from your lender and show it beside the appraisal on one page.
When the payout is higher than the appraisal, the difference can sometimes be carried within new financing through our online credit application, O.A.C., or covered with money down.
We also buy vehicles outright, so a second truck or an older van can be sold even if you are not buying from us today.

Financing a Ram ProMaster in Kingston
Financing is available on new and pre-owned vehicles at Jim Thompson Chrysler, a Ram ProMaster included, O.A.C.
If the van will be bought in your company's name, tell our finance office up front, because the application and paperwork differ from a personal purchase.
Approval depends on your application, income, credit, the vehicle and lender requirements, so we do not promise an outcome before we have seen the file.
Our finance office works with a range of lenders, O.A.C., and walks you through each option in plain language, including lease options on new vehicles, O.A.C.
Pre-approval is available, O.A.C., and it does not commit you to a van.
Start with our quick online credit application so your file is moving while your order is being set up, O.A.C.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Ram ProMaster front-wheel drive?
Yes. Every 2026 Ram ProMaster is front-wheel drive, as the earlier model years are, and on a Kingston winter a set of winter tires matters more than anything else.
If you need four-wheel drive for unplowed job sites or farm lanes, a Ram pickup is the better fit for that work.
What sizes does the Ram ProMaster come in?
It comes as a cargo van, a window van or a chassis cab cutaway, with three wheelbases, low, high or super high roofs, and an extended body on select models. The super high roof arrived with the 2023 update.
Choose the roof around the garages and laneways you use every week.
Is there an electric Ram ProMaster?
Yes. Ram Canada added the ProMaster EV for the 2025 model year in cargo van and step van versions, and its 2025 fact sheet lists a targeted range of up to 290 km in city driving with the standard battery.
Ask our sales team which versions can be ordered for the current model year.
